Dress Code

These uniform and dress code regulations are in effect for the 2009- 2010 school year.

ID Badges will be worn by students at all times.  The proper location of the ID badge is around the neck on a lanyard or clipped to the collar or shirt placket.  The ID badge should be visible at all times and not tucked inside of the uniform shirt or outerwear.  Defacing (scratching, writing, covering with stickers, etc.) of the ID badge is not acceptable.  Students who deface their ID badge will be expected to purchase a new ID badge for $3. Failure to wear the ID in the proper manner will result in a dress code violation.

Uniform Bottoms

·         Boys - Plain tan khaki trousers of full length, cuffed or hemmed, or shorts with either a pleated or plain front. Pants with belt loops require a navy blue, brown, black, or tan belt be worn by the student.

·         Girls - Plain tan khaki pants of full length, cuffed or hemmed, with a navy blue, brown, black or tan belt if the pants have belt loops.  Cutting off belt loops is not acceptable.  Plain tan khaki skorts, shorts, capris or dress jumpers no shorter than five inches above the back of the knee are also acceptable. Questions pertaining to length will be determined by the administration.

No overalls (long or short), jeans (including khaki), biking shorts, stretch pant, leggings, sweatpants, cargo pants, painters pants, see-through, or wind pants are permitted.  Excessively tight, loose fitting, baggy clothes are not acceptable.  Pants will be worn at the waist: no sagging or hip hugger pants will be allowed.  All articles of clothing should be of appropriate size and fit.  Pants and shorts should not have extra pockets, i.e. side, thigh, or ankle patch pockets. Rolling up cuffs above the ankles will not be permitted, nor will cuffing shorts more than five inches above the back of the knee. This will be considered a violation of the dress code.

Uniform Tops: (boys and girls)

  • Navy blue polo-style shirts and long or short sleeve navy blue dress shirts are acceptable.  All shirts must be plain (no trim and no logos) and have an open collar.  Navy blue turtlenecks may be worn during the winter.  Brand labels and symbols are considered to be logos and are not permitted.  The shirt should be of sufficient size and length to remain tucked in during normal activity.
  • T-shirts or other collarless shirts are not permissible as an outer garment.  Only uniform shirts should be worn under sweatshirts or sweaters.  All shirt collars must show above the neckline of the sweatshirt or sweater.  Only plain white or navy blue T-shirts can be worn under the uniform shirt.
  • Shirts are to remain tucked in at all times.  Shirts must be properly tucked so that the belt or waist line is completely visible.

Footwear: (boys and girls)

  • Shoes may be sneakers, loafers or lace up.  Shoes with laces should have the laces intact and be securely laced at all times.
    B. While sandals are allowed, flip-flops, backless shoes/sandals, slippers (including athletic ones), high heels, clogs, or platform shoes are not permissible for safety reasons.

Outerwear: (boys and girls)

  • Sweatshirts, sweaters, and light jackets worn over uniform shirts are permissible during cold weather.  ONLY plain outerwear (no brand names, team names, logos, or school names other than Broadmoor), that is white, tan, or navy blue, may be worn inside classrooms.  Hooded garments are discouraged, and under no circumstances will a student be allowed to cover his/her head with outer wear (except outdoors during extremely cold weather).  Only shirts with logos or symbols that promote or represent a school organization (Peer Helpers, Student Council, Cheerleaders, etc.) can be worn at this school.  Regular short sleeve or long sleeve shirts worn over the uniform shirts are NOT acceptable outerwear.
  • Heavy coats and jackets worn during very cold weather may be of any color but should be removed while indoors.  Only outerwear that qualifies as cool weather or winter wear may be worn over the uniform shirt.  Trench coats are not acceptable at any time.

The Appropriateness of All Student Apparel is at the Discretion of the Administration
